360 BIRDS EYE VIEW CAMERA ON VEHICLES
The Around View Monitor is a support technology that assists drivers to verify if cyclists or pedestrians are too close to the vehicle and also assists in helping to park more easily by better understanding the vehicle’s surroundings through a virtual bird’s-eye view from above the vehicle. The Around View Monitor helps the driver visually confirm the vehicle’s position relative to cyclists and pedestrians and also other objects such as the lines around parking spaces and adjacent objects, allowing the driver to manoeuvre into parking spots with more ease.

The cameras can also be fitted to construction plant and specialist vehicles. The 360 degree view allows the plant operator to view the plant from above eliminating blind spots. This allows the operator to clearly see site personnel and objects that are in the danger area of the plant reducing collisions between plant and personnel.
The around View Monitor processes video from four cameras, displaying the composite footage on the screen as if there is a single birds-eye view camera right above the vehicle. This makes parking much easier.
Through the bird’s-eye view, a driver can check for obstructions around the vehicle.
・The system display is split screen, on side permanently displays the bird’s eye view and the other side displays one of the four cameras. If reverse is engaged then the rear camera view is shown, if the left or right indicator is engaged then the left or right view is displayed, when travelling forward with no signals engaged the front camera is shown.
Alternatively the driver can select which view they want to be displayed by using the remote control.
The four wide-angle cameras set up at on the front, back, left and right are the foundations of the Around View Monitor.
Video signals from four cameras feed into an image processing unit: The side views showing both left and right; the rear view showing the back of the vehicle; and a front view camera. These signals are then converted into a composite virtual bird’s-eye top view image as if seen from directly above the vehicle. It is this image processing technology that is the key point in the Around View system.
